As an Education Candidate, I am aware of the importance of Communicating with Families in a frequent and successful manner. Establishing a relationship with my classroom families as early as possible will set not just me, but all of my students up for success. When guardians are aware of what is going on in the classroom, it provides them with peace of mind about the things their students are doing. Being able to provide guardians with a list of certain topics being reviewed in the classroom allows for them to practice with their students to ensure more success. As an educator, I want to create a classroom where I have consistent Rapport with my families to ensure that all of my students are succeeding. By providing different types of communication options with families, I will be able to respond to family concerns with professionalism and cultural sensitivity. I want guardians to feel as though they can contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns at any time. One thing that I have created is an interactive QR code attached to all messages I send home to guardians. This has different spots for comments, concerns, questions, and contact information. I also provide my email and phone number so that families can have contact with me in a way that is easy for them. I also provide the option of having them write a letter and send it to school with their student. By providing these different options I am being mindful of the different socioeconomic and technological factors within our area. I want to make sure that my guardians feel open to discussing things with me, so providing them with different forms of contact is one thing I always strive to do. With the area that we live in, I must be culturally sensitive of the different ways families can communicate, which is why I offer multiple ways to do so. I want to do a weekly newsletter in my classroom to inform guardians of upcoming events and tasks within our classroom. They will be able to contact me with any questions and keep me updated on their individual students. In each letter I send, my contact information will be easily accessible on the bottom of the page. This will ensure that my efforts to engage families are frequent and successful. Students will be contributing in this communication by providing me with important dates/holidays for them so that we can be all inclusive. According to the Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler Model of the Parental Involvement Process, parental involvement is one of the keys to student success, as it is the base level that leads to student achievement.
